I talked to Jyll Person-Body of Black, Out and Proud, at Juneteenth on the Ave.

Tell me what is going on.

We are one of the six sponsors of Juneteenth on the Ave. You can find us at our website: blackoutandproud.com or Instagram: @blackoutandproud

Why sponsor Juneteenth on the Ave?

Because we are a black and queer serving organization. We wanted to make sure that we have a presence at Juneteenth. We are first black. When people see us walk down the street, they see us as black before they see us as queer. We want to celebrate our blackness just as much as everyone else. We thought it was important to sponsor this event.

I was wondering, because there is a large event today at Goodale park.

I believe that there is space for all of these events in the city.

Sidebar: What is up with several major festivals on the same weekend? For example, Columbus had two Juneteenth celebrations and many of the suburbs also had celebrations.

Is there anything that I didn’t ask you that you think I should have asked you? If so, go ahead and answer that question.

I would just plug our website and Instagram again. There is where you will find all our events around the city.
