Where are you from?

Franklin, Ohio.

Tell me what you just did.

I just broke my own world record in the one arm deadlift. The old-world record was 451 pounds. I just broke it by 11 pounds-462 pounds.

Tell me about the event and how you got started.

This is considered Strongman. I used to be a football player and a powerlifter before I lost my arm.  I met James Spurgin and he got me into Strongman. I owe a lot of the credit to James because he pushes me really hard. He won the event today. I took second.

What do you eat?

I stand at 6 foot 3 inches. I weigh 290 pounds. I eat about 8,000 calories a day. I eat at least 600 grams of protein a day and 600 grams of carbs a day.

Can you eat chocolate?

I can eat whatever I want.

How do you train?

As far as deadlift goes, I do a lot of five by fives. Five sets of 5 reps at 80 percent of my one rep max. My accessory work is body building movements and muscle isolation. I focus mainly on overhead press, squats, power cleans and deadlift.

Is there anything that I should have asked you but didn’t.

I used to be a firefighter. I lost my arm on an on-duty accident.
