I talked to Artist J. Travis at Juneteenth on the Ave.
Tell me about your expression of art.
Typically, I like to do abstract art. I like to promote my people and send messages. I will put black people, black girls in different kinds of settings. This is a galaxy world with different worlds. The meaning behind it is when the world is against her, “I got her back.” It reminds us that we have to make sure that we are protecting our children, especially our little girls. We need to make sure they are safe. Unfortunately, this world is getting worse.
Tell me about your background.
I am self-taught. I go with a vibe. I want to show that we are royalty, we are united, and we are loved.

Is there anything that I didn’t ask you that you think I should have asked you? If so, go ahead and answer that question.
I love the atmosphere here. Everyone was so sweet. My goal is to empower black women. I love learning. Check me out on Instagram. I quit my full-time job to be an artist.
