I talked to Dane Khy at Chalk the Block 2022.
Is Chalk your primary medium?
No. I have never used chalk before. This is my first time and I am having so much fun with it. It is giving me an opportunity to be really expressive. I find that I have trouble doing that when I am painting. It is nice to be able to scribble all over the place.
What is your primary medium?
My primary medium is acrylic and oils. Lately, it has been a lot of spray paint. I have been doing a lot of public art and murals. Spray paint is usually my go to. That is my favorite medium.
Do you usually have a theme?
There is a common theme in my work. It is usually a bonding relationship between humans and animals, especially dogs.
If this is your first-time using chalk, this must be your first time at Chalk the Block.
It is. I have been here as a spectator; but, not a participant.
Are you a local artist?
Yes, born and raised in Columbus.
Is there anything that I didn’t ask you that you think I should have asked you? If so, go ahead and answer that question.
Maybe a lot of people have a fear of pursuing art full time. I have been one of those people. What is beautiful about Columbus, there is such a great art community. There are so many people here that are willing to share resources. There are so many events that happen around town. I have a studio over at Chromedge Studio, 400 West Rich. They have Franklinton Fridays the second Friday of every month. All the art studios are open to the public. You learn so much by participating and interacting with the artists. People ask me questions. I love sharing my journey to this full time. I am willing to help others who are tying to pursue that as well.
